Big Country ready for next step on The Journey

Published:
ONE of Britain’s most successful and best-loved rock bands are touring the UK this month with a new line-up as they prepared to release their first album in 14 years.
Big Country returned to touring in late 2010 after a 10-year break.
Their first incarnation had sold more than 10 million albums worldwide with anthems such as In A Big Country, Chance and Fields Of Fire.
The band stopped touring in 2000, and, when Adamson died tragically in 2001, that seemed the end of that.
But the seeds of a reunion were sown when they reformed for a 25th anniversary celebration in 2007, and at the end of 2010 they toured again, with Mike Peters of The Alarm taking on vocal duties.
Original bass playerTony Butler left last year, to be replaced by former Simple Minds man Derek Forbes, and he lines up nowadays alongside founder members Bruce Watson (guitar) and Mark Brzezicki (drums), with Peters fronting the band and Watson’s son Jamie on guitar.
To show it’s no nostalgia trip, they have recorded a new album, The Journey, which is released later this month.
“After 30 years I would never thought I would be playing in Big Country again,” said Bruce Watson. “A band Stuart and I started last millenium in the hope of carrying on his dreams from his days in The Skids. We hope to do him proud.”
Brzezicki added: “As Big Country continue to evolve, the journey continues. I am looking forward to expanding the journey into new territories and continuing our unfinished business.”
They’re at the O2 Academy in Newcastle on April 14. Tickets are £22.50.
